My son is a lego fanatic. His preferred themes are Power Miners (discontinued), Star Wars, Atlantis, Ninjago and Pharoah's Quest. I initially hesitated to invest in this set for the reason that of an additional comment I read, but we located it holds together as well as most lego sets of comparable size throughout play. He enjoyed building the Atlantis Exploration Headquarters, and has enjoyed playing with it since. This is his third Atlantis set. Whilst he likes it, I would say he and his twin brother have been less interested in the Atlantis theme overall as a scenario for pretend play. We do like that the set includes lots of good components for inventive play when they're carried out with the original build (robots and space ships are favorites here -- lego lovers, you know what I mean). Btw, my son is six, but a especially achieved lego builder.

While this kit is substantial, it's fairly very simple. My 8 year-old did all of it on his personal and just necessary assist with the axles. Generally, we pick kits that are a small way more hard so mom and son can function together. All in all, a excellent kit with a lot of detail.
