Product Description

Hexbug is a micro-creature toy robot inspired by BEAM technology. Hexbug has a few simple behaviors. Once switched on, Hexbug will move forward with a classic alternating tripod gait. If an obstruction touches either of the antennae, or if it detects a loud sound it will back up to the left and then continue forward. The name Hexbug, however, has more to do with the shape of the packaging it is sold in than the number of legs it has.
The crab series, which hides under dark spaces and has light and sound sensors, and therefore is able to respond to audio or light stimuli.

Bought two of these. Although batteries were included, they were dead. Installed new batteries, but toys performed dismally. Gifts to two grandsons, one of whom said quite candidly "this toy is lame!"

My 5 year old daughter specifically asked for this for Christmas, but once she opened it and played with it for a while, I could see she was a little disappointed. It just crawls back and forth and that's it. To me it seemed like a cheap windup toy. But it takes batteries and costs way more. Oh, and it broke within 15 minutes of "playing" with it. Not so broken that it was garbage, but a little bracket broke off one of the legs and it lost some of its secondary movement capability.
